Tip of the Month: Pack your kite right and it'll last the test of time!

Ideally, dry your kite out before packing. There's no need to rinse it in fresh water, but if you do then make sure it's bone dry - if it's packed away whilst damp it'll most likely grow mold!
  1. With the kite secure on the beach the right way up, take the lines off and wrap the bar up, turn the kite over and hold it up off the beach
  2. Unclip the strut clips, one by one
  3. Undo the deflate valve, making sure to undo the top one first, and then the bottom one (they can get stuck together if you undo the bottom one straight away)
  4. Lie the deflate valve across the opening sideways, and then re-attach the velcro of the round neoprene protector, this means the air can continue to be pushed out of the kite as you roll it up, but no sand or debris can get into the delicate inner leading edge bladder
  5. Make sure the kite is upside down and laid out lengthways, in line with the wind
  6. Roll one wing tip to the middle, being careful not to put your weight on the kite as you roll, sharp objects will easily puncture the canopy. Dust off any sand and remove any stones as you roll. You're aiming for a smooth and fairly tight roll (or it won't fit in the bag)
  7. Roll the other wing tip to the middle, you may need to put a board or something on the already rolled up side, so it doesn't unroll in a comical fashion as you try to roll the second wing tip to the middle.
  8. Take your two near rolls of kite and turn them so they are on top of one another, then fold into three to place in the bag
  9. Gently do the zip up, being careful not to snag the canopy on it
  10. Store upright and do not put anything heavy on your kite when you're transporting or storing it, it can cause creases and ultimately damage the canopy
Enemies of kites include stones, sand, and creases!

If you take care of your kite, it will last a lot longer and stay in better condition :)
